You’ll join Caterina and her husband Antonio at their highly praised restaurant located in the heart of Pizzo Calabro, where you’ll learn from Caterina’s technique and extraordinary talent in creating innovative dishes using seasonal ingredients from Calabria.

In addition to your cooking lesson, your visit to Pizzo will promise unforgettable memories. Take in the breathtaking, panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea’s Gulf of St. Eufemia and the distant island of Stromboli as you stroll through the city’s historic streets. Visit charming shops and make sure to enjoy tartufo, the city’s internationally acclaimed gelato.

Morning Class Schedule

Before our morning cooking lesson begins, we’ll join Caterina‘s husband Antonio at their restaurant and take a morning shopping tour to local stores, where we’ll learn about fresh local ingredients. Walking through Pizzo is a must in the mornings when the town’s charm and colorful local life are most evident.

Antonio will walk you through town and introduce you to his favorite food suppliers. You’ll meet his favorite fishmonger who will show you the day’s catch and his local fruit and vegetable store that sells the freshest seasonal vegetables grown in their garden above Pizzo Calabro. You’ll see the preparation of the famous gelato ‘the tartufo’ and stop to devour the rich gelato at a local cafe. You’ll also have the chance to visit Caterina and Antonio’s pasticceria that has been passed down generations and still remains to be a popular stop for coffee amongst the locals. Caterina’s father still runs the store and creates typical sweets of the town.

After the morning walk, we will return to Caterina’s restaurant where she will teach you her best-kept culinary secrets. Using her innovative approach to traditional regional cuisine, Caterina will teach you to use fresh, seasonal ingredients to create a delicious Calabrian lunch.

After class, enjoy your relaxed and exquisite meal at the restaurant complete with Antonio’s selection of local DOC wines.

Price includes

  • Transport from Pizzo’s train station. If coming from Tropea or any town within the Vibo Valentia province, an extra fee is required. Contact us for more information as different rates apply depending on the pick-up destination. Direct trains run between Ricadi, Tropea and Pizzo daily.
  • A guided food-shopping tour in the town of Pizzo with Caterina’s husband Antonio.
  • Hands on cooking lesson with Caterina.
  • Lunch to follow, including all dishes prepared in class with desserts and carefully selected DOC wines to compliment.
  • English speaking guide.
  • The day starts at 9.30 am and continues into late afternoon.
